Grand Mufti of Lebanon, Sheikh Abdul-Latif Derian, visits Germany

Following an official invitation from the Berghof Foundation, the Grand Mufti of Lebanon, Sheikh Abdul-Latif Derian, is on a visit to Berlin since Monday evening which aims at strengthening Sunni institutions in Lebanon by promoting stability and religious tolerance. The Grand Mufti was welcomed at his arrival in Germany by the Ambassador of Lebanon, Dr. Mustapha Adib.

During his four-day stay, Sheikh Abdul-Latif Derian is to hold talks with representatives of the federal government aimed at supporting the efforts for tolerant thinking and religious pluralism in Lebanon and at helping to engage in the dialogue with Islamic institutions in German language. Moreover, Sheikh Abdul-Latif Derian wishes to gather information about relevant existing initiatives in Germany such as the training of Imams and the efforts for a program against the growing religious radicalization of young people.

On Thursday, April 23, a reception will be held at the residence of the Ambassador for representatives of Lebanese parties and associations in Germany as well as Muslim and Christian dignitaries.
